What Happens To Your Call When You Hit The Wall

May 4, 2008

Scripture:

Exodus 2:11-15 - “Now it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12 So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, “Why are you striking your companion?”  Then he said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?”  So Moses feared and said, “Surely this thing is known!” When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses.  But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian…”

Exodus 3:1-6 - “Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.  And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.  Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”   So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!”  And he said, “Here I am.”   Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.”  Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

Synopsis:

The Bible is full of messed up misfits who were called by God.  One of the more well known is Moses, who although he murdered an Egyptian and fled from the vengeance of Pharaoh, was found by God on the back side of the desert and commissioned to deliver the Israelites from  Egyptian bondage.   God did not reject Moses because of his faults and He will not reject you and me when we fail or fall.  As a matter of fact we become even more valuable to God after we have hit the wall of failure in life.  It’s our misfit status that qualifies us to minister to other misfits.  And we are all misfits, having hit the wall of failure in one way or another.

Before time and in eternity, God created and anointed Moses to be a defender and deliverer of his people.  But Moses went through a wall of failure which labeled him a criminal and a fugitive.  In spite of his failure God did not reject Moses or change his calling.  Even on the back side of the desert he operated in his anointing as a defender and deliverer of a Midianite shepherdess, who eventually became his wife.  As Romans 11: 29 indicates, no matter how many times we fail or fall in life, God is never going to change his mind about our gifting or call.  Why?  Because God’s nature is in His name.  He is the great “I AM” who never was but always is, meaning He hasn’t and never will change.  God is immutable and therefore His decisions about you and I are irrevocable.

If you haven’t hit a wall of failure in your life, you will.  If you have hit the wall, know that God hasn’t changed His mind about your gifting, call or purpose and He never will.
