Say The Word
February 24, 2008
Scripture:
John 1:1-3 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made.
John 1:14 - And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Luke 5:1-14 - So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!
Synopsis:
“What you see is what you get,” is an idiomatic phrase that has been repeated so much that it has become a proverb. But the truth of the human experience is that many times what we see on the surface of a situation is false evidence appearing real, which defines fear, a sham and an illusion. Hence the enemy tends to manipulate the things we see to deceive us into believing his lies. The faith of a believer must not be defined by the seen but by what is heard. In order for us to be steadfast in our faith and live to see the hand of God move on our behalf, we need to take God at His Word. This is what the centurion in Luke chapter seven did and was rewarded with a healed servant.
Our text says that in the beginning God’s Word was with Him, and in fact was Him. This speaks of Jesus, the expressed image or “logo” of God in the flesh. It goes on to say the “logo” of God spoke the “logos” of God and all creation came into existence. This speaks of the creative power of God’s word that always does what it is sent to do. Since we are created in God’s image, we also are part of His “logo” and as believers have the authority to utilize the creative power of His “logos.” When we speak God’s word, it causes our circumstances to line up with God’s will.
The word of God comes in two forms. Logos is the written word representing the predetermined reason, logic and thoughts of God put down on paper. Ramah is the spontaneous; often times prophetic, spoken word that reveals the heart and intent of God in a present situation. God’s word, no matter what form it comes in, is always consistent and reliable. So if we speak and conduct our lives according to the word of God that we hear in all its forms, we tap into the His divine logic and gain an understanding of his divine logistics, creating a life consistent with God’s plan and purpose which will always prevail. On the other hand, if we speak the illogical hollow philosophies of man and build our lives on only what we can see with the natural eye, we create an illusion, which leads to delusion and ends in destruction.
