I Will Get My Word
February 10, 2008
Scripture:
John 2:1-11 - “On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” 6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” 11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.”
Synopsis:
If ever there was a time that we needed a word from God, now is that time. There is an atmosphere of uncertainty both inside and outside the Body of Christ, and in uncertain times we need to hear the voice of our eternal Father telling us that He still loves us. But we won’t receive a word from God if we do not have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying. Often times the cares of this world create a crisis in our lives, which distract us from hearing the voice of God when we most need it. We can not afford to allow our current crisis to affect our eternal destiny.
The gospel of John in the first chapter and first verse defines God in terms of His word saying,
“ In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” In this passage “Word” can be defined as “matrix” or the mold through which all of life is shaped and formed. This “word” comes in two forms, “Logos” the written word and “Ramah” the spoken word. No matter how it comes to us, God’s word has the power to mold and shape us into what God has created us to be. That’s why it is so important for us to read and meditate on God’s word, allowing it to control our thoughts and dictate our actions. Meditating on God’s written word creates intimacy with His Spirit and positions us to receive His “Ramah” word. Sometimes God’s “Ramah” word is revealed through preaching or teaching, but as Psalm 29:3 says, “…The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters,” meaning He can speak a Ramah word to us in any way He chooses, if we have ears to hear.
There are many times when we ask God for a Ramah word that His logos word is more than adequate to give us the victory over our circumstances or the attacks of the enemy. Other times only a Ramah word will do. That’s why it is so important to read God’s word daily, pray continually, and press the preacher or teacher, putting a demand on God’s anointing on them and His written word in them for the Ramah word we need. This is how we position ourselves to receive a word from God. And when He speaks we must obey or risk missing our season.
